MINDFUL ORGANIZING FOR CRISIS MANAGEMENT: A CONCEPTUAL MODEL FOR ENHANCING ORGANIZATIONAL RESILIENCE

Abstract

In the face of unprecedented global challenges, organizations must adapt quickly to crises, demanding resilient leadership and effective crisis management strategies. This paper presents a conceptual model for "Mindful Organizing for Crisis Management," emphasizing the role of mindfulness in enhancing organizational resilience during turbulent times. The model integrates key elements such as mindfulness practices, organizational learning, and adaptive leadership to foster proactive crisis management. It argues that mindfulness—defined as the ability to remain present, aware, and responsive—can help organizations better navigate crises by facilitating effective communication, decision-making, and coordination. By focusing on the interplay between mindfulness, organizational culture, and leadership practices, the model proposes that organizations can cultivate a resilient mindset, enabling them to anticipate potential crises, respond effectively, and recover more quickly. This paper further explores how organizations can develop mindful organizing practices, such as regular scenario planning, stress-reduction programs, and creating a culture of openness to uncertainty. The model suggests that these practices enhance the capacity for adaptive change, improving both short-term crisis responses and long-term organizational sustainability. The study concludes that integrating mindfulness into organizational routines and leadership development offers a strategic advantage in building resilience and ensuring more effective crisis management.
