STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP FOR LARGE-SCALE EDUCATIONAL REFORM: LESSONS FROM ENGLAND

This study examines strategic leadership in large-scale educational reform, with a focus on lessons drawn from England’s recent educational transformation initiatives. Strategic leadership in education involves long-term vision, decision-making, and the ability to manage change across diverse stakeholders. Through a case study analysis of England's education system, the research identifies key strategies that have shaped successful reforms, such as policy development, leadership training, stakeholder involvement, and data-driven decision-making. The study highlights the role of educational leaders in navigating the complexities of reform, addressing challenges such as resistance to change, resource limitations, and equity concerns. Drawing from England’s experience, the research also explores the impact of external factors, such as political will and societal expectations, on the success of reforms. The findings suggest that for large-scale reforms to be successful, strategic leadership must be adaptive, inclusive, and focused on sustainability. Recommendations for implementing similar reforms in other contexts are provided, emphasizing the importance of a shared vision, collaborative leadership, and ongoing professional development.
